Why are dragon flies hanging around my little pond in the yard?

Question:when i was younger we called 'em "snake feeders" , do they have anything to do with snakes...

Answers:
Dragonflies are wonderful beneficial insects, they do NOT sting, and have absolutely NOTHING whatsoever to do with snakes. Dragonflies feed on mosquitoes, gnats and midges, ALL pests of man and gardeners everywhere. Treasure them, they are an indicator that you have a good water environment.

dragonflys always hang around water and they are a food source for snakes and frogs.
dragon flies are attracted to water
Dragonflies are predatory and are hunting other bugs that are attracted to water. They also lay their eggs on water plants.
Spooky is correct. Dragonflies lay their eggs on water. Ever watch them fly low and dip their tails to the surface of the water?
