Rubber Plant care? Any useful advices out there?
Question:
Answers:
Rubber plants like bright light, but never hot sun. When your new leaves are emerging, even less light is advisable, as this will promote larger leaves..Rubber plants are very susceptible to changes in environment, such as warm to a cool room..Keep them out of drafts, and away from heat sources.
Keep your plant evenly moist during the growing cycle in spring and summer, but on the dryer side during the rest of the year. They really appreciate having their leaves sponged off with a damp cloth. When you fertilize your rubber plant in the spring and again in early summer, use a weak mixture of a soluble house plant food.
Rubber plants have a tendency to lose their lower leaves, usually from environmental reasons. If this happens very often, new shoots will emerge from the old leaf node. A very light nick, with a sharp, clean knife, right above the old node will often speed the new growth process from that point, but be sure to not cut to deeply.
Yep, don't drop it or you'll never catch it again
don't over water they grow in a dry climate and clean the leaves with baby oil it makes them nice and shiny
Keep leaves clean by standing plant in rain on MILD rainy days. Many houseplants suffer in home environments, leaves become dusty, air is dry, in fact the total opposite of what they have in their homeland of the Malayan forest margins. They like humidity, and warm natural rain, good `leafy` soil, NO burning sun or `cooking` of the roots.
I found that mine did quite well with an occasional (in good weather of course) light spraying with a garden hose. Kept the dust down, which interferes w/ photosynthesis and also made it look good. Don't forget under the leaves as well. Beats trying to dust a few hundred leaves. Wouldn't recommend polishing the leaves with anything though. Tends to clog the pores on the leaves and acts as a dust trap, unless you do it often. Had to prune mine back a few times too. Have 8' ceilings and it was determined to go higher than that.
