Question:I am looking for a pet friendly weed killer for dandelions. If there is such a thing please let me know where to buy it.
Also has anyone ever heard of or tried putting epsom salts in your garden soil for growing hot peppers?I had a person tell me about this and he claims it works and he got a lot of peppers.

Our blog has an entry dated May 25th that talks about a product that's a by-product of corn that will be safe for your family and animals.
Epsom salts add magnesium to the soil. This benefits many plants including tomatoes, roses, potatoes and peppers. See the link for one type of application.

If you really want something pet friendly how about a Weed Hound . I got mine at Home Depot and they work great on dandelions. It is a long handled tool but will require a bit of work. Actually is kind of fun to use and cost about $20.
To get rid of your dandelions, pick the flowers as soon as you see them, before they seed is best of course. Water your lawn deeply once or twice a week (instead of shallow every day) and raise the blades on your mower. Taller grass will shade its own roots (which it needs) and the roots of the weeds (which they don't like). If you continue to pick the flowers off, water deeply and mow weekly, the grass will choke out the weeds and you won't need to use any herbicides. And epsom salts are GREAT for your peppers! Don't spread it all over your garden though, some plants don't like it. Just sprinkle some around your peppers. Good luck and happy gardening!!
Most Ortho products, such as weed b gon are safe for children and pets once the chemical has dried. Just take the dog(s) for a walk for half the day. Hope this helps!
