Elder flower and berries make the most delicious wine, the berries are a bit fiddly, but well worth the end result.
The elder blossoms are small and white which turn into lovely black/blue berries. Treat this tree with respect it is very unlucky to harm it , ask the lady before taking any part of this tree.

Hi Patsy.

Here's a clear picture of an Elderberry:

http://online-media.uni-marburg.de/biolo...

Its Latin name is Sambucus nigra. It has the distinctive white flowers that turn to black berries in the Autumn.

Bit of a weed though! If you brush against it, it stinks, if you cut it, it stinks. It self seeds everywhere and it is prone to aphid attack which leaves a sticky substance on anything underneath the tree.

The black form is a little less rampant and there is a bright green form that is a little more attractive also.

Hope that helps answer your question a little.
