RED Cordyline?
Question:How often do I have to water my RED Cordyline? It says just to keep it moist and I am afraid of over and under watering it. Any advice would be great thank you.
Answers:
If it is in a pot you should water freely during the summer months, if in the garden you should keep moist until the plant is established, then only giving water during feeds and dry spells. Over watering established plants will cause surface roots which will then become reliant on hand watering.
often
THEY ARE REALLY HARDY PLANTS.I STUCK MINE IN THE GARDEN ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO,AND NOW IT'S ABOUT 13 FOOT HIGH.IF YOUR GONNA LEAVE IT IN A POT,JUST WATER IT REGULARLY AND GIVE IT A BIT OF SUN N IT'LL BE FINE,BUT IF YOU DECIDE TO PUT IT IN THE GARDEN,IT'LL GROW MASSIVE,AND THEN YOU'LL GET A FEW QUID FOR IT,IF YOU SELL.THE BIG UNS ARE WORTH A BOMB.
Lift the pot. Light = dry, aerate and water. Heavy = wet, don't water. Or dig down in the soil with your fingers and feel how wet/dry the soil is.
if it is in a pot at this time of year you cannot over water it as the excess will drain from it, they are tough plants and do not require much care once in the garden apart from when first planted if you have a dry spell.
