I believe that if you plant them at the outset of the monsoons and water for one year thereafter, after that the roots will reach the water table and the tree will sustain itself. Thus there is no need for manual watering anymore. This is assuming that there are enough trees around to ensure a relatively high water table. Tamarind is a slower growing trees than some others so you should consider this aspect as well. In a rapidly growing tree, the roots would also grow down correspondingly and reach the water table faster.
