Moss control!?
Question:my lawn is infested with moss and its also very soft under foot, how do i get rid of it?
Answers:
Lawn sand which will kill the moss. (you can buy it from most garden shops.) Don't walk on the grass after you have spread it on as you will get black footprints on your lawn. You could rake it out with a lawn rake too. Its hard work but excellent exercise. lol. You might have to re-seed bald areas of lawn after you have disposed of the moss.
Try Scotts Moss Control, sold at lawn and garden and hardware stores.
moss destroy power!!
Get Pete Doherty!
Buy a moss weed and feed solution.
The moss is only in your lawn because you have bad drainage - so getting rid of it is only part of the solution!
I actually love the way walking on moss is so springy!
Anyway - you need to improve drainage otherwise no matter what else you do - the moss is coming back!!
Lawn sand kills it
You need to apply a moss killer. Any sort will do. Then you must rake out the moss with a lawn rake. To improve drainage you can use a garden fork or lawn drill across the lawn. If the ground is permanently sodden then a ditch beside the lawn may help.
I would recommend applying a combined weed, feed and moss killer at the start and end of each growing season in future. Airating and raking the lawn once in spring, as well as regular mowing will help also.
Moss is a symptom of another problem such as bad drainage. Ferrous Sulphate kills moss only and is the active ingredient in lawn "feed and weed" treatments such as evergreen which is sold as most Garden Centres or places like Focus. It is important you follow the instructions when spreading the granules, alternatively if you have a sprayer you may be able to spray Ferrous Sulphate on the grass but take great care not to over spray walls and paths as it leaves a brown rusty stain which is permanent.
