Getting Rid of Grubs in My Lawn?
Question:Im trying to get rid of grubs in my lawn. I get it sprayed four times in the season (fertilizer). Can my lawn take more "chemicals"? Whats the best thing out there for the grubs. HELP my lawn is looking like crap. THANKS in advance!!

If you have actively feeding grubs in your yard a preventer will not do you any good. Your getting towards the cutoff of where you want to put down a preventer. You really wont know if you have grubs unless you see the damage and by then its too late. And just cause you have them in your beds doesnt mean you have then in your lawn. Fertilizer really has nothing to do with grubs. Japanese beetles will look for moist, healthy lawns to lay their eggs in. That is what having yoru lawn fertilized does. So having a thick healthy lawn does have its drawbacks. And if your not putting down some type of grub preventer you roll the dice.
So if you have seen grub damage, meaning you can pull up those areas like sod and you want to look towards the edge of where the green grass meets the brown damaged turf and look for those grubs. You may have to get your hands dirty looking for them. But if that is what you have then you need a curitive put down on the lawn. If you have lawn care company doing your lawn, ask them about treating for grubs. Other than that start looking in the stores, get that product put down and watered in. If you have a lesco store near you that would be your best bet. Look for a product called Dylox.
go to the home depot and ask for assistance. an employee should help you. ask them what is best for your lawn. they helped me last time, and they were really nice.
Get "Grub and Insect Control" at Home Depot. Your lawn will have no problem with it. The grubs will hate it.
you should try the Jerry Baker web site. he has a lot of natural methods of lawn care . i think he mentioned using dish soap in a sprayer but dont remember the amount. i have also heard of using nematodes that you mix with water and spray on as well. hope you solve your problem because if you let it go, you get a bigger problem from moles,skunks and raccoons ripping up your lawn to feast on the grubs.
My grandma told me to always use Cayenne papper. It kills everything under the ground without harming the grass. When I moved into my house two years ago, the lawn was infested with fire ants and grubs. I sprinkled cayenne on it all and watered it in. I do it about three times a year and it is perfectly safe for my children to play. I am the only person in my neighborhood without a chemically treated yard who has 0 insects. I think it even killed the fleas (i haven't seen any).
Grub control is done after the eggs are laid, usually in August or September. You can use a special spray for grubs, this is different than the fertilizer.
Strong, healthy grass is less likely to have a grub problem. Female beetles do not like to lay their eggs in tall grass or shady grass so cutting your lawn no shorter than 2.5 to 3 inches is a good way to prevent them. Also the grubs like to eat Kentucky blue grass and do not like some of the shade tolerant grasses like fescue as well. Adding more trees and shrubs to your lawn and overseed with shade tolerant grasses will increase shade and discourgage egg laying.
i use 'spectracide" for grub control..you can buy some in a bottle that attaches to your water hose...then back up maintence, buy the spectracide granuals and apply as directed...here is what these products look like, and Home depot, walmart etc handle these products..i use them faithfully..check out my flickr link on my profile..page 11 has my veggies..along with all my herbs and banana trees on pages 1 and 2..
