Please help me with my sod...?

Question:Watering the sod 2x/day for 30 minutes. Grass is not as green as it once was. Some areas are yellowish. Are these signs of overwatering? Does it need fertilizer? Sod laid down a month ago. When sod was laid down, they put down a weed preventer first. Don't know if it was mixed with fertilizer.

Answers:
all grass goes through a shock period when installed... what did you have?? Bermuda grass will defiantly turn yellow after installing... Where do you live/ what is the weather like?? If it's been sunny and hot and your grass is in FULL sun you need to water it at least 3/4 inch. Don't put any fertilizer on it now... Fertilizer might shock the roots and kill them. If it's in shaded area I would cut back on watering just once every other day. You don't need to water too much if it is shaded, only if it's in direct sunlight.

I'd also recommend watering earlier in the morning then late PM. Water that doesn't absorb before sun setting will more than likely sit and cause blade rot. Don't water in the heat of the day cuz your wasting water. make sure to give it a good soaking (to help the roots).

what time of day do you water.....evening is best....If the sun is on it when you water, it could cook it.
I water early morning, before the sun comes up. I used to water in the evening and same thing, yellowish grass. I was told it was a fungus because the water is laying on the grass too long. They said change water time to morning and no more than 2" per week. Allows water to soak in, but what doesn't evaporates in the morning. You should fertilize too, nothing too hot though. Good luck.
I was just reading about this. A lot has to do with the quality of the soil underneath. If this is turf over a new housing development's lawn, it is safe to say that they probably skimped on the topsoil and there isn't enough. I agree. Water early a.m. only unless the sun is off it late afternoon and it has been very hot. Then, water again.
