Why is my "Golden Showers" rosebush no longer golden?

Question:About three or four years ago, I purchased a Golden Showers climber. The first year it did indeed bloom a golden yellow color. Subsequent years have brought me very pale apricot blooms - no yellow to be found. The over-all shape of the plant, foliage, and growth habit have not changed at all, just the bloom color. Could this be the plant that Golden Showers was grafted onto?

Answers:
The "Golden Showers" part of the plant is dead. The original plant was grafted on to a hardier root stock. What is growing now is the root stock.

Sounds like your graft has been pruned off or died off. A good majority of roses are a product of a graft union where two roses are used to create one. Something has happened to the graft union so now you only have the stock rose. At least you have a nice color, most stock roses are white which in my opinion are nice too. In the future when you have a new rose be really careful about pruning or working around the base of the rose bush.
You can avoid these unions by purchasing roses grown on their own root. Here are two of my favorite Rose Nurseries.

These roses are award winners, free of disease and not any more than you would pay for a good rose from any local nursery.
I am sorry to dissagree, but I do believe it might be soil conditions check the soil might be too accidic or not enough.if theoverall appearance has not changed, just the color, that is what I am betting on little improvements to the soil like compost might help restore the original color!
Hope this helped! Nana
