When is the proper time to transplant my Columbine plants?
Question:I have 5 in pots that are done blooming and am looking to replant them in our garden.
Answers:
Autumn/fall is the usual time to transplant perennials, although they will probably be fine if you planted them out now. Otherwise, just leave them in their pots over the summer in a partially sunny spot and keep them well watered. Alternatively, collect some seeds from your existing plants and germinate these now; plant out seedlings when they are a few inches tall.
I would wait until the fall my self the foliage is pretty
I usually transplant my volunteer ones early in the spring before many leaves start (for the younger plants) older ones get a tap root and can be transplanted, but they wilt down a bit, but will come back and in time will do just fine, I'd keep water on them.
So at this time, I'd just plant your potted ones in the ground but try not to disturb any dirt around them, just pop themout of the pot and plant them and maybe give them some miricle grow and don't let them dry out. don't be surprised if they wilt.
good luck, if they went to seed, plant the seeds.
if they are in pots then anytime is fine as long as u keep em watered for the first few days or so! after the first week u can cut back the water to the amount u give ur other plants or just once a week(deeply though).. this will give em plenty of time to get established before winter sets in!
