Can I add extension to inground sprikler system. I am grading the yard and need to add some height to the spri

Question:Each head will need 3" to 12" in height. Can I add an extension?

Answers:
You sure can. Any garden center which carries irrigation supplies, should have what is called sprinkler head "risers". They connect to the lateral lines and have threads on both ends. All you have to do is remove the existing head, screw in a riser of the right height and diameter, then install the sprinkler head on the riser. Be sure to use "plumbers" tape on the threads before doing this. This will keep the connection from leaking at the joints. These risers come in different sizes from 2" to 12". Good luck.

You can add extensions. Even Rainbirds sink into the ground or the sod eventually will grow higher covering up the lower pop up heads. It is a good idea once or twice year to run the system in the daytime to find out why you have hot spots where the grass seems yellow or brown. The force of the spray may rotate heads to water the house, be clogged, full of fire ant hills (in the south) or other problems.
