Lavendula bush dying??

Question:I'm a keen gardener and normally have no problem. I'm now experiencing something i've not seen before. One of my Lavendula bushes, a well established plant, has begun to die. It appears that the root system isnt transporting water to the plant, as when i cut a section of and place it in water it becomes healthy again?? Any suggestions? stumped on this one.

Answers:
As this is a mature plant I think the prime suspect is probably vine weevil eating the roots. Especially as this year they seem to have been particularly bad.

I would recommend taking some cuttings as a back-up to treating the main plant in case it's too damaged to save.

There are two ways to treat vine weevil. Available from most garden centres, Provado make a water on chemical to kill them which is very effective. Nemasys is the environmentaly friendly option (www.nemasysinfo.com). You order by post either online or via some garden centres and they send you a packet of nematodes that you water on to attack the vine weevil.

Good luck, I hope you're plant survives.
