i'm really not sure what your asking. do you just want to fill the hole and forget it?but leave a small pond there to wade in? meaning you dug the hole too deep??.unless im just not understanding you right...just pour the concrete in there and leave it just below where you want it then put in the water concrete lasts for years even in water and its very strong but you want it to be atleast 4 inches thick
Could you please clarify? I'm confused as to why you dug a hole and want to fill it with concrete that's safe enough to sit on and walk on? Are you building a pond? Or filling in an old one?
The stiff concrete called "gunnite" sprayed over chicken wire is hard to beat. It's the stuff the pros use to build swimming pools. Get an estimate from a pool contractor, you might be surprised how reasonable it is especially if you install the wire yourself. To get an even better deal, wait till fall when they need the work. Another option would be to mix your own stiff mortar and spread it over the wire with trowel like stucco. RScott
You should get some 2x2 inch wire mesh, you might need to look around at various places to find a small quantity. Form the mesh to the sides of the hole. Get a few bags of concrete mix, try to estimate how much you will need from the instructions on the bag. Mix the concrete so it's a "stiff" mix, not too much water. Wear sturdy rubber gloves and place the concrete in the bottom of the pond first to a depth of 4 inches. Work your way up the walls, pulling the mesh into the middle of the concrete, maintaining the 4 inch thickness up the walls. You can use a trowel to smooth the concrete or just smooth the concrete with your hands. You might want to use a stiff brush or broom to give it a slip resistant finish. Once the concrete has set, keep it moist for a week or so and then you can fill it with water.
