What are the best uk plants to encourage butterflies of all kinds including rare varieties into your garden?

Question:

Answers:
Buddleia davidii is known as the butterfly bush because it attracts clouds of butterflies during the summer. yarrow is also attractive to butterflies, as is the annual Alyssum.

Bear in mind that if you really want to attract butterflies then you ALSO need to provide plants which they can lay their eggs on and which their caterpillars will enjoy eating. these include less attractive plants such as stinging nettles, docks, and members of the cow parlsey family. just providing nice flowers for butterflies may not be enough: you have to think of their family too!

Buddleia (or Butterfly Bush) is the obvious one. Also see link for numerous other ideas.
