4.5 acres - suggestions for sustainability + native flora and fauna?
Question:Am going to create a small wood and would like to plant native plants and flowers to encourage insects and creatures great and small! Would also like to be able to generate an income from the land in order to be able to keep going with environmental projects. Any and all suggestions very welcome please. Thanks in advance

You could plant fruit trees and sell the fruit at local markets - also, could grow veg on part of the land. What about putting an acre into willow production on short rotation coppicing? The willow can be used for basket weaving, making trellises for gardens and also can be burned in wood-burning stoves. Contact the organisations I listed in my previous answer to you - they should be able to give you some useful advice.
Don't know where you live, but here in the States we have the Cooperative Extension System, which is part of the USDA. This is a great resource for information local to your area.

Check out the Mother Earth News-- there is a web site and you might find back issues in libraries. Organic Gardening will also give you some info-- The key is organic-- prices are better and actual start up costs are lower--
good luck
