What can I do or use to prevent mildew on my wooden patio deck?
Question:I bought a house with a wood deck in the back that has treated wood, that is about 3 to 5 years old but it has never been stained or painted or finished in any way. This past winter (pacific north west) the wood turned green and so slippery no one could walk across it. How can I prevent that happening this winter
Answers:
First, I would powerwash it to remove anything from the surface (it should take the slimy stuff right off). Then paint it with Cabot deck paint. It comes in a ton of colors---even a transparent one if you like the natural color of your deck (even with the green!). We've found it at Lowe's (not at Home Depot), but you may have a local carrier, as well. The paint lasts for some years!
Scrub it with Bleach water. Bleach kills mold.
You can use TSP-trisodiumphosphate, you can get it at Home Depot or Lowes, follow the directions and you will be mildew, or algae free!
use thompsons water seal and you should not have that problem anymore they sell it at home depot or lowes either one should have it . good luck .
