Hostas not flowering?
Question:I have had hostas for three years now ,they have only flowered once , that was in the first year , why wont they flower now ?
Answers:
It depends a lot on variety and sunlight. If they are in deep shade they tend not to bloom. The most probable reason they bloomed the first year is the flower buds already existed when planted. I have several dozen varieties that I grow for there interesting foliage so I don't really care if they bloom or not. That said, I've got several that have the most wonderful scent, but I've long since forgotten there names. RScott
I don't know but I wish mine would do the same! I grow them for the foliage not those puny flowers.
too much sun maybe? the snails eat mine before they get chance to bloom, they do better in mostly shade. Good Luck!
We have had a dry, cool spring. Hostas in the NE don't flower until later in the summer.
Depends on the type of hosta. I have two types, and only one of them flowers consistently. Check the soil ph and try plant food and see what happens.
They need to be fed and watered well. They are better off in the shade but can do well in full sun too but in a boggy area. Put gravel around them to prevent slugs and snails from eating the leaves I take the flowers off mine as soon as I can just to get all the goodness going into the foliage. At the moment it is not being a bad year for them.
Hostas need shade and they are VERY prone to attack by snails and slugs which upsets them. {It would upset me too}.
