I am installing an 18'pool and need 12 cubic feet of sand. How many tons would that be?

Question:THE POOL IS 18' X 48"DEEP AND I NEED 3" OF SAND

Answers:
Dry sand is about 100lbs per cubic foot, so 1200 lbs-- a little over half a ton.

Sand is roughly 100 lbs per cubic foot.

So it would be about 1200 lbs.

Get one ton, better to have a little extra.
Depends on the particle size and moisture content of the sand really.

Keep in mind you are going to be compacting this, that will add to your needs (unless you already factored that)

See this chart. It is kg/cubic meter.

Sand, wet 1922
Sand, wet, packed 2082
Sand, dry 1602
Sand, loose 1442
Sand, rammed 1682
Sand, water filled 1922
Sand with Gravel, dry 1650
Sand with Gravel, wet 2020

1 cubic meter is ~ 16 cubic feet.
1 kg ~ 2.204 pounds.

You will need between 1400 and 2000 pounds of sand. I would order at least 10% or 15% more than I thought I needed. It is cheap! I hope this is helpful, Happy swimming.

you can get most of what you need in a full size truck or large truck ... ive done it. set up my own pool a few times make sure you clean nice under it before real good and spread from the middle out and up the sides your going to love it i miss my old pool darn it... tey can tell you at the local sand pit ...id say its going to be like a ton mine was a 16 ft it took little over a 1/4 ton was like 20 bucks but it s been a few yrs
If the sand comes directly from the rock plant it will be wet.
They water in the crusher to keep dust down. So I would go with what Mark b said. if you have extra use it in flower beds if you have hard ground!
You should not even have to worry about what the weight is.Most Rock/Sand/Gravel companys sell by the cubic yard, and can tell you need 1 1/3 cubic yards.
If you want to buy it in bags, and haul it in a Cooper Mini...or small car, usually bags are sold 50 or 75 lbs. Each contains about 1/2 cu ft, so you need about 24 bags..sounds like 3 trips won't overload the car.
And if it's delivered...none of that matters, just tell em' what you want.
Looks like all the contractors were just waiting around for a question for them...

1/2 ton will be fine.
