What is scottish broom?

Question:my wife saw a bush type plant she liked and one person thought it was scottish broom, anyone have a picture of this or know where to look?

Answers:
Here is a website that has some pictures of it and a lengthy story about it. Apparently they really did make brooms out of these plants...pretty cool!
At any rate, I hope this helps.

Look in any good plant book that has lots of ground-cover, it is very common.
I'm from the UK and this plant grows quite widely on common land, as well as in gardens.

In nature it's yellow colored but there are many garden varieties with reds, browns, whites. They have a perfume, which can be quite strong. Whilst the natural type grows to 7 or 8 feet in height, and around 6 feet wide, the varieties grown for garden culture cover dwarfs up to the same height as mother nature's.
Check your state and county guidelines before planting scotch broom; in some areas, it's classified as an invasive or noxious weed.
