Gladiola seeds?

Question:After glads have bloomed and fell off there are pods coming out where the flowers were when they dry out they bust open and seeds are inside, Are they any good?

Answers:
The reason Glads bloom every year is the fact that they are a "bulb". You can use the seed but it will take a few years to grow and develop into the beautiful flowers you are expecting to have. This is why gardeners 99.999% of the time plant bulbs. They will flower the first season after planting and continue to produce for a number of years. The bulbs produce "baby" bulbs by multiplying each year. This is the reason for using bulbs instead of seed. With bulbs, you never have to re-plant anything. You will however, need to "divide" the bulbs that are continually regenerating every 3 or 4 yrs.. I used to give them to my neighbors when I did this, so they too could have nice flowers in their landscape... Bulbs are the only way to go when it comes to Gladiolas..
