Wood fence maintenece help?..?

Question:we just put up a cedar wood privacy fence, and i know that all the other wood fences i have seen have looked very dingey and cruddy after a year or so...so how do i prevent this...can i? and what kind of maintence/treating the wood do i need to do?

Answers:
It does not take a year for a fence to cure. In the hot summer it will take less than a month. Behr makes a good sealant. If you thompson it just protects the wood not the color. If it ever fades you can pressurewash it to bring back the cedar tone (almost new)

You will need to clean and stain them about every other year. Try to find a sealer with linseed oil as a base. I haven't had a lot of good luck with the latex sealers. It seems they don't last long enough. When you do seal it, you will find that they come in colors too, if there is a preference, you can pick the new color it will be.
You have to allow the fence to cure for a year or so then spray it with Cuprinol or Thompsons.
