What are some good trees and shrubs to plant for privacy?
Question:I have a kind of narrow, but very long back yard with a privacy fence. There is a house right in back of me and I would very much like to block that view. I was wanting a variety of things, lots of green and a little punch of color here and there.

I would try an upright yew-green and fast growers. Also try smaller trees like japanese maples (if located in non-windy spot). There are also some nice crab-apple trees that provide good colors. I would recommend visiting a local nursery they should have someone that can give some solid advice. I would stay away from retail stores, because you might not get the product or advice your need.
Privet hedge... as long as you keep it pruned so the top is equal to, or narrower, than the bottom - can grow to15 meters!
Autumolives are ideal for privacy fences and can be started by sticking live wood in the ground in the spring when they start budding out. Some seed catalogues call them Cardnal Automolives
