How do I get rid of a HUGE infestation of Tent Caterpillars if they are in a really tall tree?
Question:We live in South East Texas and have a huge problem with these things. They have nests everywhere in my tree. They fall out of it all the time, they are crawling on everything. We also have a swimming pool and they are crawling all over it and falling in it. I have read everything about burning them out..etc etc., but for the nests that I can't reach, how do I get rid of them?? There's HUNDREDS of these things everywhere... my kids have had to make pool time into "hunting and watching for caterpillars" time.. it's no fun. Is there a certain time of year these are nesting or something? HELP!

Caterpillars are cool.
get pest control or go to home depot for some good advice
Go to your local hardware or wal mart, git a yard sprayer, and approiate pest control. when you mix and git ready to spray ,remove the tip of the sprayer and it will shoot a stream 30 or 40 feet in air, apply a liberal amout to the tents and in a day they will start turning brown and dead...George
Get a sprayer at your garden center and spray
I cannot imagine having that many of those awful pests. We have some problems here, but not to that extent. I'm afraid that you would have to hire someone to come and spray the entire area. Our county does it here each spring. Others in your area must have the same problem. Find out if they do, maybe you can get together to get rid of them.
Contact your local Master Gardner Club and see what they can recommend. I feel sorry for you having to put up with all that.
