Lawn Mowers..?
Question:Are mowers that mulch (i.e. multi-clipping) better than those that collect the grass clippings?
Answers:
Yes provided 1.You mow at least weekly (during main growing season
2.The cutting blade is sharp
3 The cutting deck is clean
4.The grass is not too wet
This applies to all mowers for if you want a good result.
Avoid mowers that do both as from my experience they do neither job well.
Multi-clip/recycle mowers are actually better for the lawn as cut grass is high in nitrogen which is the main ingredient in lawn fertiliser. Beware of mowers that claim to recycle, as recommended before go for Stiga Multiclip Pro Self Propelled with Honda 5.5 OHC Engine.
It is best to get a lawn mower that offers both. Most do have the option of mulching and bagging or removing the bag and leaving the clippings to break down on the lawn. Sometimes lawns will get to much build up and you will want to bag for a while allowing the lawn to break down what it has built up. Either that or you will end up dethatching often, which is a pain.
Yes, they sort of "recycle" the grass clippings. Instead of bagging them up to put someplace, the mulching ones make the clippings so small they re-enter the system and make the lawn more thick.
Also it kind of depends on where you live and how often you have to mow. We live in Michigan so we only mow maybe 5-6 months out of the year. If you live in a place in a place where you have to mow more than twice a week, I agree with the previous answer that you might get build up, but if not, GET IT
Would you like me to cut your grass? I would take the grass home with me and place it in the re cycling bin.
I use a fly mow with a metal blade its much better than the ones witch collect the grass or the ones with plastic blades if you cut your lawn reg you will not have to collect your grass clippings if not you can just use a rake its a lot neater that way
It really depends on the result you want to achieve - quality of lawn - and what you are starting with - existing lawn.
If you are starting with a scruffy uneven area of grass then you will never achieve a Wimbledon like surface, so you might as well mulch cut it, same applies if you just want a tidy area rather than pristine stripes.
If you want a perfect finish then you will have to get a mower that collects cuttings and preferably has a roller at the back.
It really is down to what you want to achieve!
do you like recycling grass clippings if so use both mulchers and collection in the bags and store your clippings as a compose for you gardens instead of buying fertilizer or compose in the flower shop
to me they are more incrementally friendly,
best to remove the clippings if left it looks unproffesional and you have to dethatch yearly so more work and expense although it could be good for work its untidy
