Can root killer put in a floor drain kill trees?
Question:Last year or so I poured root killer in the floor drain of my cellar to keep it cleaned out. This year I have had problems with all the trees in my back yard. My largest tree appears to be dying. Many others have died at the top and at the ends of the branches. Even my neighbors tree that is near my yard is dying on that side. I was getting ready to use the root killer in my lowest drain again as my drains are very sluggish but it suddenly dawned on me that perhaps that is what has harmed my trees? Does anyone know if that is possible? If it is, is it possible that there is anyway to undo some of the damage?
Answers:
It is possible, and i guess it all depends on your product. Was the stuff you put down the drain designed to kill trees? Or just the roots? or was it just like drano?
Take a look at the product packaging and see what it has to say.
Try buying some fertilizer for your trees, some of the best stuff comes in steaks that you pound into the ground beside the tree.
I believe it is possible. I suppose you live in a rural area and have a septic tank sewage system with perforated field lines and a filter bed for you to suspect this possible cause for sick trees.. Home plumbing in urban areas normally pipes into your city's sewage system and never gets into the soil around your house.
Ask one of your local arborists, Nursery, or County Agent for advice.
I wish you good luck with your trees!
duh, what will you do with the dead tree?
not to mention it's a sewer! these things should not go in it...
