My watermelon, Cucumber, and Cantelope are dead?
Question:I have no idea why! The squash are doing fine, so are the tomatoes as well as the assorted types of peppers. What gives? I put them on hills as I was instructed to and watered about every three days. What gives? Help if you can.
Answers:
did you forget to water?? Sometimes the dirt you plant them in is not the right soil, or the zone you are in may cause it too.
These fruits died due to a lack of the things they need. You must remember that living things need water. Without water, they die. You put them on a hill and then gave them water which rolled down the hill and into a stream at the bottom of the hill.
Take this analogy: soccer is a sport that is not played on hills.
In the future, I would reduce the size of that hill with a bulldozer or other comparable piece of equipment (for example a large, industrial sized crane), and then plant the crazy fruits on the much diminished hill. Now the water will be accessible to the ground. It will be important to place a small fence to prevent soccer balls from hitting your young fruits.
Be careful not to pick or eat the young fruits as this will also result in a premature termination of their growth.
At night, the squash attack!
These plants need to be planted with a slight mound to prevent them from rotting. Did you put fertilizer in with the plants? I would water them every day until they were established. Did you plant them or use seeds? what type of soil. Just a few ideas, sorry they didn't make it! Good luck on you're next batch!
You have squash borers. You should have sprayed with something when you first noticed the damage.
