Best riding lawn mower advice?

Question:Brands? Prices? and the such?

Answers:
I recently made my first riding mower purchase and went with a 42" troy bilt from Lowes. Gave $899 for it. If I had the cash I would have got a used one. No real regrets though, 42" on a decently landscaped yard (.8 acre) is a bit overkill, but it beats pushin it 22" at a time. I would go with a used one if you can afford it, and get one with wheels on the deck if your property its level. O, yeah, zero turn cant be beat.

It would be hard to go wrong with a Craftsman.
I have a huskee! $1300
Avoid the box stores. They will not service your mower. You get what you pay for. If you want to throw it away in 3 years, then buy from the box store, otherwise look for an independent dealer. The brands I recommend are Simplicity, Snapper, then John Deere (Not from Lowe's or Home Depot). These all have dealer support after the sale, and they are not MTD or Husqvarna (makes the sears tractors)
By a rider that fits your lawn type!
If your lawn is flat, either type: zero turn or tractor will be ok
If your land has hill sides tractor types work best. They won't slide down the hill on cross cuts like a zero turn will.
If you have open area, either type will be ok.
If you have lots of trees or landscapes to mow around, by the zero turn type and save wear and tear plus time.
Had a Wheel Horse. It lasted for years.
Had a Snapper. Fantastic for vacuuming up everything! But costly as all get out to repair. Not real well made.

Now own and operate a Meijer brand riding lawn mower. Not too many bells and whistle but BY FAR the heaviest and best built of the three. And only cost $800 as compared to $3500
Sears / Craftsman. They will have parts many, many years into the future. Keep your manual and just order by number.
