How do you grow sunflowers?

Question:

Answers:
Some sunflowers grow really tall, others get huge heads, still others are small, short, and decorative.

Buy a packet of seeds from a garden center or home improvement place. Don't try to use seeds that have been packaged for eating; they're usually baked/salted so they won't sprout.

Pick a spot with full sun and lots of room. Plant 2-3 seeds per hole as far and deep as the seed packet describes for the type of sunflower you're planting.

As it grows, the heavier varieties will need support to keep it from toppling. "Plant" a pole or stake alongside the plant and tie the sunflower stalk to it as it grows. Not too tightly: the stem will continue to grow as the plant gets higher.

If you want to harvest and eat the seeds, pull a clean stocking over the head once the petals start to die off. That will keep bugs and birds away from the seeds. Then, just wait for it to dry out so you can pull off the seeds.

Growing sunflowers Plant in full sun, where they will not shade other plants.
*Be sure to plant after the last frost in your area.
*The seeds should be 1 inch deep and 6 inches apart when planted.
*When the seedlings pop up, thin them to 1 1/2 foot apart or one foot for the dwarf varieties. (In containers you can squeeze them closer)
*Water well after planting and keep fairly moist until the seeds sprouts

They are easy to grow... you can grow them in the ground or in a large container. Plant them in the sun, and water often until they come up. Thin out to the strongest stems. I stake mine or tie them off to a small trellis. The wind can break them easily when they are still young. A strip of panty hose is great to tie off plants because it is gentle on the stalk and will stretch. Just tie loosely. Be sure to save the seeds from your flowers to plant next year!
I planted the seeds and watered them.and they are growing. I water them often.they continue to grow.
