Is there a method to make grass absorb water?

Question:My front lawn is on a hill and most of spring/summer stays pretty brown. Anytime I water is just runs off into the driveway. Is there any ideas on how I can green up the lawn?

Answers:
instead of a running water sprinkler system try a slow weeping hose. It is usually coated with a black neoprene type surface and can be found in most home and garden centers easily. Good luck :)

It probably needs to be aerated, and compost added. I had the same problem. Last fall I rented a power aerator, and after I used it I added about a half inch of compost to the yard and raked it in. Holds much more water now and stays green.
use a soaker hose. slow dripping water will absorb instead of running off. leave it on for a long time it wont waste water.
Mr Hothead,

I have just the product for you. I recently attended a landscaping field seminar and came across a distributor, showing his companies product. The product is a soil amendment, called "Zeba"..This product sounds amazing to me. It is little polymer balls that you spread anywhere you wish to hold moisture. These little balls absorb water and it sits under the soil like little sponges and keeps the roots supplied with moisture whenever they need it. It holds 400 times its weight in moisture. Amazing! They have a product for every form of agricultural gardening, from farm crops, golf courses, sports fields etc. You can even use it on your veggie and flower gardens. Iam providing a link to the companies website for you to look at. It has a tremendous amount of information regarding this amazing product. You will have to aerate first and then spread this product with a normal fertilizer spreader, then rake it into the holes. I have not used it myself, but after hearing Zeba's district representative speak, Iam a firm believer in this product. Be sure to look at this link and click onto all the info. It can explain it better than I can. Iam trying to go from memory...lol. Hope this helps.

Its not necessarily the grass but the ground. They make these things that go around your shoes that have spikes on them. You walk around your yard with them usually while mowing and it puts holes in the ground at root level. The ground will hold more water thus giving your grass more water.
