I'd like to find out if they're beneficial insects or not.

Answers:
Maybe flea beetles? If so, definitely NOT beneficial! Hope this helps...

Solution: Keep the garden clean and free of debris. Wormwood Spray and Red Pepper Spray are effective

I have a backyard garden too, and lost a ton of tomato blossoms to cool night temps. Argh! Hope yours do better, Good luck!

The look like tomato bug eggs. I'd just spray them with a solution of dish detergent and water to get rid of them. If you want to see what they turn into remove the leaf and place it in a jar when they hatch you can see what they are.
Take a leaf to a garden center. NOT HOME DEPOT
