How can i prevent moss from growing in my pond?
Question:
Answers:
A lot of people use bleach, but since I have doggies who think it is a water bowl, I use an algaecide by FountainTech that is safe for domestic pets and wildlife. They sell a killer and preventative at Target in the garden section.
You probably mean Algae not moss
You can buy Algaecide at garden centers to keep the algae down. Having fish in the pond will help too.
Go to www.northerntool.com In the search box type in pond supplies.
I used to have a real problem with moss and algae.
when I introduced lilies and pond irises I have no problem They must use the moss as nutrients. I've heard that you can get a straw bundle from a nursery that floats and absorbs it.
hope this helps
Cattails may clear the water but you'll likely never be rid of them, plus I don't know how quickly they work. Reduce nutrient loads by using a copper based algaecide we used a blue pond dye called Aquashade. This blocks specific light that the moss needs to grow, it pretty looking as well.
The algae forms when dircect sunlight shines into non moving water. Get a fountain or filter or both that circulate the water. This will allow for some benficial algae, but it will not take over your whole pond.
