How do you plant grass?
Question:Whats the easiest way (if there's more than one)? And how long does it take?
Answers:
If you want to replant an entire lawn:
Step 1-Use RoundUp to wipe out your entire lawn, and you can actually replant within 3 days of using it (not 3-4 weeks like others have stated)
Step 2-Remove all the dead grass/weeds
Step 3-Level out 1-2" of new "Quality" top soil (without weeds, rocks, and sticks)
Step 4-Choose a grass seed to fit your home, for example sun/shade mix, Kentucky Blue, Shade Mix, Sun Mix, etc.
Step 5- In order to achieve a consistent (non patchy) lawn I would suggest using a broadcast/rotary spreader, and set the dial to what the back of your grass seed bag states, then proceed to spread the grass seed.
Step 6- To speed up the germination process and minimize the watering requirements use a Starter Fertilizer, also use the spreader to disburse this product. You can apply this the same day as the grass seed, but not at the same time(mixed with grass seed in the spreader) because the spreader setting is different.
Step 7- WATER TWICE A DAY
Step 8- Depending on the grass seed, you should start seeing germination/growth within 7-10 days.
Step 9- Sit back have a drink of your choice and enjoy your beautiful lawn.
Be sure to pick a quality seed, such as Scotts Pure Premium, it is 99.99% weed free, and is much more drought tolerant and insect resistent. Don't be foolish and go for the cheap seed, you've worked to hard to cut corners. Do it right the first time!
Well if you want to do it right, plow up your yard so the soil is loose. Then get a spreader and grass seed and dispurse it at the recommended rate. Then water water water for about two weeks!
probably the easiest is the grass squares you buy. you just lay them down on the dirt and water daily till it take off :)
spray the desired area with Roundup. Wait two weeks, put 1-2" of topsoil over desired area. spread seed evenly, but not real heavy. Water daily until grass is 3" high. Then everyother day until it is thick enough to mow.
As grass is growing you may notice "bald" spots. Just sprinkle a little seed in these spots for an even lawn.
Seed or sod. I've planted both. Sodding is by far easier for me because you just unroll it, cut out for trees and gardens, water it and you have instaneous lawn. Seeding you have to rough up the soil, sew the seeds and cover them with dirt, then straw to keep the birdies from eating the seed, water and wait. I just over seeded my lawn 2 weeks ago and I am finally seeing some sprouts.
For our lawn, my Husband tilled up a small area and I took a couple of squares of sod, breaking them up into smaller pieces. With a hatchet, I struck the ground, put the little piece of sod in the hole then stepped on it. Worked like a charm. Water often when you first plant!
well the easiest way is the most expensive way, which is putting down new sod, then you have get one of those tillers and rake up the dirt in your yard, then lay down the sod, and water...or you could buy some grass seeds & fertilizer from home depot, lowes, wherever, and just follow the directions on the bag
Get a whirligig spreader... put seed in... "spray" the seed onto the ground. Takes very little time.

Whats hard is the potential need to eliminate the weeds before putting the seed down... then supplying the water to get the grass to grow.
Also... WHEN you plant matters. Its best to plant grass seed in the early fall, so it can take root and start growing before winter, and doesn;t have to deal with summer before it can develop a strong root system.
Planting grass is pretty simple. If you're talking about St.Augistine or Bermuda grass in squares, than all you have to do is place the grass on the ground where you want it (in soil of course), and water it in and kind of press down on it. The cheapest way is the squares as well.
Well the easiest way is to use a weed not grass killer. to take out weeds and crab grass. Then lay down some seed after a couple of weeks. (follow directions on seed bag. some require that it doesn't rain for 24 hours.) Then lay down some lawn fertilizer. It will take a couple of months before you can mow it or really walk on it because it is fragile when it is new. Next year you will want to spray again for weeds and crabgrass and lay down more seeds and fertilizer. By the next year you will have a worry proof lawn. Just remember to fertilize and water regularly.
plant grass seed.but not now, cause there's a drought over most of the country.
You can either sod or seed. Sod is faster and easier, but you pay for the convenience. Seed is cheaper but a lot more work.
Sod is rolled out, watered everyday for 6 weeks until it takes root and viola. Thick green grass.
Seed is sprinkled everywhere and then sometimes covered in a light layer of straw to keep moister in and the seed from flying away. It must be kept moist for two weeks to take root. That means watering 2-3 times a day for 5-10 minutes each. Then you water every day for 4-6 weeks as it grows in.
Either way you have to wait 2 weeks on either side before you use any herbicides and pesticides on your lawn or you will kill the new stuff too.
Which would I do? At my last house I would have done sod because I needed to be home to turn on the sprinkler once a day. At this house we have been filling in bare spots with seed because we have a sprinkler system that can run itself. That's just because of cost. Then you always have the seed to patch when you need also.
Good Luck.
