My yard is being over run with ants!Help!?
Question:How do I stop this? I looked at the Terro outdoor stations, but do they work. I have a big yard so what is the Terro's radius. Is there something that I can mix up myself?

not sure if this works outdoors, but it sure works indoors. Spray some vinegar all over the place. it deters them like crazy. Better yet, find the source of food and remove it. It might be some fruits or veggies.
Buy Ant Spray or call an exterminator.
Amdro works wonders, but any bait takes quite a while.

I used to use mouthwash and lemon juice. Mix them together and spray, it'll get rid of the ants without killing your lawn.
We had that problem last a year and a friend said to put grits all over the yard (uncooked ones that is). It's something about the ant taking it back to the nest and feeding it to the others and the swell up & die. Whatever it did...it worked and we are ant free.
You have two choices. Call an exterminator, or live with them. The "greenies" have succeeded in outlawing all the effective ant poisons that were available to a homeowner.
Get some of the ant treatment stuff at HD that lasts all year long. I use it here at the school and at home. It works great. The playgrounds are ant free and so is my lawn. Over-and-Out is a good one to use.

Try to sprinkle a mixture of Boric Acid and Diatomaceous Earth around your doorways, even around the house. I would make about a 50/50 mixture, and sprinkle a 1/8 to 1/4 inch line of the stuff around the house, and anywhere that I see anthills.
Remember that you will have to reapply if it rains. This is a fairly non-toxic substance to humans and pets, and I have used it with good results in the past.
You can get Diatomateous Earth in your garden center or pool supply house. Boric Acid is available in any drug store.
To kill ants you need a combination of water, sugar and boric acid. Mix 1 tablespoon boric acid, 1 teaspoon sugar and 4 oz water. You can get boric acid at the drug store. I put a spoonful of this solution on a piece of foil, and place the foil in the ants path. Warning the ants love this stuff and will swarm it for several days. They are taking it back to the nest. This will kill the nest. If you use too much boric acid the ants will die before getting to the nest. Your ant problem will get worse for a few days, then they'll be gone.
This is poison. Please make sure you place this mixture in such a way that birds, cats, dogs, or kids can't get to it and become poisoned. Be sure to mark the container you store the extra mixture in as Ant Poison.
Scott's makes a lawn fertiliser that has insecticide in it. I think its called summer guard?
That will kill all the insects in your yard.
Just put down with a spreader then water it in, Don't let anybody play on it for 24 hours.
Then your good to go!
amdro... get a big bag and treat the mounds or broadcast it with a spreader. insecticides will kill the ones crawling around but won't kill the colony...amdro will.
What kind of ants are they? If they're fire ants, the Terro stations won't work...
