I have a lot of wild blackberries in my back yard, is there a way to cultivate them to increase their yield?

Oh my goodness...come get mine! I've been trying to kill mine for YEARS! I love blackberries, but I love them where I PUT them.
Dig up and discard the vines that have small or sour berries. Use fertilizer.
harken to what mommymonster said. I have 30 acres that once had less than an acre. now...3-4 acres of blackberrys. be careful not to leave cut plants in contact with the soil. the will root giving you a new plant. my problem comes from years of mowing the meadow. every plant i mow comes back three fold.
Rake around them as it to create a 3 ft fire break. This will enable the plant to entend itself. Keep it well watered, even the area with no growth, I have red raspberries and they have taken a long time to get started, years really, I have alot of new growth, but, hubby keeps mowing it down.
Blackberries fruit on LAST YEAR'S canes. As soon as you pick the last berries, you should cut off the old canes. That way, all the growth will go into this years canes and they will have a better yield next year. (In the winter, before the new shoots come up, spray the bottom 3 inches of each cane with white spray paint, then you can tell new canes from old canes!!)
For the best yield, black berries need deep, well drained soil and regular moisture throughout the growing season.
