How can i get rid of algae in my water feature i've cleaned it out but it keeps coming back?

Question:I made the mistake of topping the water up from my water butt thats when the trouble started

Answers:
You need a barley ball to get rid of the algae. Go to this site to select a barley product sized for your water feature. http://www.gardeners.com/ Search for barley. They have about seven different types. Here is an article that explains how it works: http://www.gardeners.com/success-story--... Good Luck !!

put that chemical stuff i that kills it.
Algaecide. Google it.
Large home improvement stores sell algicides intended for that purpose. That should solve the problem.
Oxygenating plants and a fountain
Add some live Daphnia, you get them from the pet shop, they're sold as fish food. They eat amazing amounts of algae and keep the water clear.
STOP!!!! Leave the algea. it's good for the water, especially if you have fish in it. it means your water feature is heathy and supplies food to the other organisms in it
You can install a water pump and filter.
right, first off i cant remember if its straw or hay LOL..

get a pair of old tights/string bag fill tightly with hay ( or straw) :-)

and leave anchored on the bottom water,, ( mm i hope its a deepish water feature.

This is an old magic trick. passed down the generations, but dont tell anyone i told you :-))

cos when it starts to break down it will help keep the water clear.
chlorine
Algae is not necessarily good for fish... Too much can cause over-oxygenization and kills the fish. If you're just doing it to look nice, however, then stick with the algaecides.
move it to the shade as the sun light makes the algae grow or plant a tree so the sun cant get to it all the time

and it's not straw or hey you put in ponds it's barely
get advice from your nearest garden centre, as you are able to buy water plants to keep the water fresh.

Paul H has the natural answer.
Our local council use bales of hay anchored in the lakes and local reservoirs.
This algea is deadly stuff dont know where the natural idea comes from cos it kills nearly all the water life.
As i dont know if this is an indoor or outdoor water feature or whether you have fish in it or, the size of it, it limits my suggestion. If there are no fish you could use baby steriilising solution or Steradent tooth cleaner to clean feature (both dissolveable tablets). Then, try using distilled water instead of tap or rain water. It is obtainable from car accessory shops, i.e. Halfords. Defrosted ice from the freezer can work too if it is totally clean. Good luck.
