How can i get rid of mushrooms in a potted plant without killing the plant?

Question:I have a petunia hanging plant on my patio that has started growing small mushrooms in it. how can i get rid of them without hurting the plant?

Answers:
Your mushrooms are a sign you're doing everything right for your petunia's - congratulations. In fact they're good for one another but if the sight of them bothers you, you can simply pick and toss, they won't hurt you. RScott

You are watering it too much. Let plant dry out, pull the fungi out, and only water once a week.Otherwise scrap the plant and try again.
Put some slaked lime in the soil. It is now presently too acidic. Lime(or calcium) will sweeten the soil.
Also a fungicide will kill the shrooms without harming the plant.
If the plant can tolerate it, I'd put it out in the SUN for a few days. This will roast the mushrooms! Then I'd figure out how to improve the drainage so that water doesn't collect in the soil long enough to be attractive to mushrooms.
Just pull out the mushrooms and don't water them so much.
Since Mushrooms Really don't have a root base, you can pull them right out! Be sure to dead head your petunia often, clipping them back behind the seed pod, usually to the main stem. Never just pull the flowers off! That will stunt the blooming! good luck!
That mushroom may be a GOOD sign, because the fungi in the soil tends to make nutrients MORE available to the flower. In fact, tons of fungi are sold for that very purpose.

If it is merely the appearance that bothers you, "pluck it out and cast it from thee," or just wait for it to go away; but don't disturb the soil. Keep those fungi roots in there -they'll grow and eventually push up another 'shroom which you may remove.

When the season's over or your ready to plant something else in that pot, I'd try to propogate the fungi by mixing the old soil in the pot with your new soil, so all your other plants get the benefit.
