How do i get the "chess board" look on my lawn?
Question:i have a big, green, full yard. normally i cut it parallel to the road and go back and forth and it looks nice. for special occasions, i use the push mower and cut perpendicular to the travel of the sun to get the lines to show better. if i do this, then cut it again at a perpendicular angle, will i get the chess board effect? or will the line just end up running in the other direction?
just tell me what pattern to mow to get the nicest looking yard.

They use special mowers at the ball parks. They have rollers on the back that push the grass over after it is cut. It gives it that cherboard look. I don't know if you can get an attachemnt for a regular home mower.
you have to use a reel mower. some people call them old fashioned. they are better for the grass anyway. this is what is used on golf courses and athletic fields.after the grass is cut, a roller pushes the grass and causes that design.if you do not have bermuda, it will not look like a golf course or baseball field
This site might help you. . . you might need special equipment. . not just a regular mower. . good luck

easy way is to cut lawn at usual depth in one direction skipping one width each pass then lower cutting hieght slightly (1/2") then cut in opposite direction skipping one width each pass
you have to mow it in a grid fashion
