Why do maple trees lose their leaves in the spring?

Question:I noticed that many of the maple trees shed their leaves quite easily in the late spring. Is this because of rain and then lack of it?

Answers:
The only time a maple will shed it leaves in the spring is if the tree is not recieving enough water or if their was a cold night (with frost) after the new leaves emerged.

The frist cause, lack of water isa serious issue and could kill the tree.

The second cause is also bad, but is survivable as maples have dormant buds that can then be opened to produce new leaves and growth.

Under no curcumstancnes do you want your maple to lose leaves in the spring, but it can happen dueto adverse conditions.
