What is a good Ride On Lawn Tractor?
Question:i am interested in buying a riding lawn mower that is going to be dependable and long lasting if i keep up with the maintenance. i have no problem with doing work on it and maintenance is easy. i just rebuilt 2 lawn tractors, one for me and one for my friend, and its about time i just buy a new one. they run fine but not like a new one. lol i know murray went out of business and of course john deer is the best, but i would like to keep it under 2000 (unless there is a john deer on ebay for cheap) there is snapper, club cadet, a sears brand but what other ones are out there?

You can get a good John Deere mower for under 2000.00 at Lowes or Home Depot. I purchased mine there 42 inch and have never touched anything (normal maintenance) JUST NOW getting ready to replace the blades...I have had this for 4 years now. Bought 2 Sears before that along...forget any of them from Walmart...Went there and they had a line returning mowers with lots of complaints...Did not take me long to leave :) But Lowes and Home Depot both have the John Deere ( hated my cub cadet took it back as well) for around 1600.00 We live on a farm and use the mower very often.
I have a MTD yard machine lawn tractor bought it about 5 years ago use it for home but we also use it to mow lawns for other people. I live in a rocky area so it has taken some abuse but it is the best mower I think I ever bought. I liked it so well that we recently bought a MTD push mower for the smaller lawns we take care of.
John Deere was bought out by MTD so now they are NOT the greatest to have, unless you get a good older model. MTD owns just about everyone. Check their site at www.mtdproducts.com. Scag is great, but only make zero-turns as well as Ariens/Gravely. White Outdoor (MTD) makes a great rider. Good Luck. And if you live close to Pennsylvania, next week, I will be listing a John Deere L120 Automatic on Ebay.
First of all John Deere didn't sell its mower line to MTD they wouldn't put their name on MTD crap. John Deere did comeout with a lower line of mowers that are available at big box stores to capture more of the market. You get what you pay for. John Deere has and always will make the best equipment money can buy. You always get what you pay for. Spending a little more money on a good quality rig will save you money down the road. My dad bought a 425 garden tractor in 1995 and it still looks like brand new today and it gets used in the winter to blow snow. We haven't had any problems with it and it mows 4 acres a week during the mowing season. It still has the original blades. If he would have bought a MTD he would have gone through 5 or 6 of them and ended up spending more in the long run. My suggestion to you is to buy a higher quality machine and spend less down the road. In my opinion the best is John Deere.
Look into the Husqvarna lineup of riding mowers.
