How can i "declump" a truckload of topsoil?

Question:i just had a truckload of topsoil delivered and it is mostly very big clumps of dirt. any suggestions on how i might declump it easily? thanks

Answers:
The best way is to put it where you want it first, then work on the clumps. You don't have to get too picky, just break them apart a little bit. Nature will take care of the rest.

It may be clumpy because:

1. It rained recently, and it's chunks of mud.
2. It's not real good stuff, did you get a good deal? Maybe not all topsoil, but other stuff.

Doesn't really matter, you have to work with what you have.

Put it in place, and use rakes (iron rake, not grass rake) or shovel to level it a bit. Should be fine.

Good luck!

shovel
i would use a rototiller if its alot of topsoil if not then just jab at it with a shovel
... Invite the neighbourhood kids over to play in it ---- point out the area you want covered and let them get on with it ... you probably won't even need to spread it once they've finished .
