We have taken hundreds of rocks from our soil. What creative thing can we do with them?

Question:We live in Atlanta, GA and the soil is very rocky.

Answers:
Depending on the size, if they are small you can make paving stones with cement and insert the rocks. You could do a tabletop or planter with them, almost like a mosaic would be done. You could cover the dirt in your pots with them.

Medium to large you could line a bed or path with them.

Any size, you could paint them. I got a book one time on painting rocks and then they can become anything - doorstops, paperweights, garden decor.

make a fountain.
Retaining wall or other landscaping wall. If they are small, you could do a stone walkway or patio.
You can use them in a water feature(like a waterfall or fountain, you can lay a concrete slab and detail with the rocks, you can build a stone mail box, the idea's are limited only by your imagination.
depending on their size: if small say 2 or 3" in diameter, you could make a water feature (e.g small water pond, and line bottom and sides with them) If larger you could make small retainer wall for garden site(I have done this with some stones I dug up in back yard, looks very natural, have Ivy growing around it as well). Best of luck
Make a decorative edging. Dig down into the soil about 3 inches and about 4-5 inches wide, making a running line along whatever you want to outline. Then use the stone to fill in the dug-out line. It's a lot cheaper than decorative marble and such.
I had a ton of rocks like you have...here's what I did. I made raised garden beds out of them by arranging the rocks in rectangles and circles. I wanted these rock garden beds to be a foot high so I used the smaller rocks to build up the walls where it was too low. Once I was done, I filled the forms I made with soil and planted my tomatoes. These rock raised garden beds provide great drainage, and look great! For extra effect you could fill a large rock raised bed with soil, then make a smaller circle with rocks on top of that soil to make a tier. Then put your plants in the lower main section, and the higher tier, then put rocks around your new plants to hide the soil. This will create an awesome looking rock garden. The plants will look like they are growing directly out of the rocks! This is accomplished by hiding ALL of the soil around your plants with rocks.
