Nepeta cataria (catnip) and Nepeta fassenii (cat mint) are both favorites of cats. Beware: both plants are part of the MINT family and can become aggressive!
Almost any rack of seeds - in nurseries, Home Depot, Lowes, etc., will include catnip and/or cat mint!!
Catnip grows easily in light soil and self-sows readily. Some cats love to roll around on the plant. If necessary, cover the crown of the plant with a inverted wire basket -- stems will grow through. You can also insert short sticks around the plants to keep cats from rolling all over them!
Grow plants in full sun or partial shade. They are not fond of high heat with humidity.
Good Luck!!
I've never seen catnip seeds. What we have usually done is find an old abandoned farm house and we usually find catnip planted near the house. We then dig up a plant and replant it at our home. I can only assume that old-timers had this plant to make catnip tea, more than like myseld that grow it to entertain my cat.
I just bought a plant from the nursery but I have not seen the seeds, if you get the plant you will be able to collect the seeds from it eventually.
most places do
