How do I get rid of quackgrass ?

Question:My lawn was loking perfect this spring when I noticed now that there are these blades of grass with whitesh tips like wheat on them.

I found out that these are called quackgrass, I am looking for a solution to this problem.

Answers:
Yes, there is a way to accomplish this goal. You will notice that at certain times of the year quackgrass grows faster than your desired turf grass and, therefore, is taller than your turf grass. At these times you can wipe RoundUp on the blades of Quackgrass without getting it on your turf grass. If you have a small area of Quackgrass, use a painter's sponge brush soaked in RoundUp. Squeeze it out so it doesn't drip and wipe it across the Quackgrass. I have a wand made by Sideswipe that allows me to fill the handle with RoundUp. I can stand and wipe the Quackgrass with the Sideswipe applicator. I find that it takes at least a couple of applications, but it will get rid of Quackgrass with a minimum of herbicides and it does not harm the turf grass if you are careful

There are no selective herbicides at this time that can be applied to your turf and only remove Quackgrass. Pulling Quackgrass is not an effective control method because this weed regenerates from underground rhizomes (runners). Pulling leaves the rhizomes or parts of the rhizomes and the plant will regenerate. Digging can work only if you can get all of the rhizomes removed.

My lawn used to have a quackgrass problem. They grow higher than your grass and are lighter green and thicker with a reddish base. They're easiest to identify a few days after a mowing. They are very easy to pull out one by one when the soil is moist. That's the only way to rid your lawn of them. It will take you up to a season to get it under control, just be patient.
Wow, been in the business a long time and never heard of it. You must be in a really different area.

I looked up this link for you, hope it helps.

Good luck!
In the UK its called Couch Grass (you say 'cooch').
Its a perennial grass, and a real nuisance. It spreads in two ways; by seed - so keep it cut, don't let it set seed - and by underground runners.
You just have to dig it up. If you use Roundup, a portion of the runner survives and puts up another plant. If you dig it up and leave an inch of runner, it will grow into a new plant. So just dig it up when you see it.
The runners grow horizontally so you don't have to dig down too deep to get them out. It's easiest when the ground is damp.
