Mosquito repellent for backyard deck?
Question:Our deck outback (there's woods behind our backyard) has a terrible mosquito problem. I am looking for a natural and or homemade solution to getting rid of them. I would like to get something that will repell them from the deck, possibly the backyard. I don't have a lot of money to spend on all of the products advertized, not to mention I wouldn't know which one to get. I also have grandchildren and a dog, so I am looking for something safe. Please Help!!

smoldering coconut husk works well
Citronella torches may help.Smashing the individual insect with a smouldering coconut husk is not only decisive but also satisfying.
The best advice to give you is make sure that you get rid of all standing water, even small amounts, first. A tablespoon of water can produce hundreds, maybe even thousands of mosquitoes. If you have a pond or stream near by you can get Mosquito Dunk at most hardware stores to put in them. It's not harmful to humans or any animals. There are plants that are used to repel them. I think one is called a lemon plant or mosquito plant. They may be helpful. I, too, have had the same problem with them around my grandkids to the point I wouldn't let the out to play. Hope this helps with your problem!
Any plant containing citron will help so citronella plant is ideal also marigolds work almost as well and down here in Georgia both can self seed
