Is it too late to start a vegetable garden?
Question:We live in the deep south and want to start a garden. It's already in the upper 90s. We would be able to water it daily if necessary. Think it's too late ? Thanks

Check with your local garden center for advice. There are lots of things that you can start now and still harvest, especially if your area of the deep south stays warm and has little or no frost.

Good Luck and Happy Gardening from Cathy and Neal!
If your nurseries still have vegetable plants stocked, then it's probably not too late. But since your temps are already in the 90's, I'd say from past experiences, it probably is too late. Hope that helps!
I live in Texas and I say no for things like okra and green beans but you might need to shade your tomatoes in the afternoon corn will still work squash too good luck
You should almost be able to have a year-round garden in the deep south providing you grow the right things at the right times or have a little shade.
Right now it's perfect weather for tomatoes. Tomatoes need temps to be at least in the 80s to set fruit so if you see some of those nice big tomato plants for sale at your store and they should be really cheap this time of year-go for it.
Corn likes a lot of sun and needs warm weather and melons will do okay if they get lots of water and a little afternoon shade. Okra was made to grow in those conditions.
You can also get ready for a winter garden and buy some seeds for greens or lettuce, beans and peas and plant them as soon as the nights start to cool off. We used to grow greens year round when we lived in Ft Worth.
