How do golf courses get rid of them?

If you can tolerate the odor, moth balls are good for keeping "critters" out of your garden. The veggies don't take up the chemicals, and the animals can't deal with the smell.

Gophers, jack rabbits and squirrels evolved before man. Therefore, they have a prior claim to whatever grows. When you plant stuff on their land, it becomes theirs.
Also, I doubt that squirrels are eating anything in your garden. They are all around my house and the only thing that gets in my garden are deer.
Maybe the fact that I have four cats running around outside has something to do with it. The are natural predators of the animals you mention. So go to the animal shelter and rescue some cats. Also, they make great companions and if you are also allergic to them, just let them stay outdoors.
Finally, I would recommend you go see an allergist if you are allergic to things in addition to chemicals.
I don't get it, here in SW North Dakota I have all three of your varmints roaring around and none of them has ever bothered my gardens. Cotton tails are a different matter that require a slow squeeze on the trigger. RScott
