Need help identifying a plant?


Question:the plant is woody and I mainly see it growing in ditches when we drive through the country. It has many small leaves groupled together. the flowers are red and bunched together like lilacs and smell like some sort of jam. I picked a flower when I went for a walk earlier to get a closer look. The stem felt sticky when I was carrying it home. I'm just curious about this plant. I tried googling it but I couldn't find anything like it. I am from mn btw if the plant varies in certain areas
