Can lemon trees grow thorns?

Question:my cousin thinks his tree is growing thorns. i felt them they are kinda sharp and green and pointy

Answers:
OUCH! Yes and some species have very big and sharp ones. The citrus family is a very large one, I'm leaving in a part of the world where there is a species call locally as "trunj" giving very large fruit (6") with thorns 1-2" long.
Don't forget that many lemon trees in the world are grafted on more resistant species with thorns. Your cousin may have let the root part grow and the thorns are on this part of the plant?

maybe his tree is not a lemon tree, but, a tree that is a lemon.
NO,NO,NO
maybe it is an ornimental lemon tree
I believe that would be a Yes! Especially if it grows below the graft. I know some citrus seem to do that, depending on the variety.
