What can I use for backfill against pool for drainage?
Question:We just put up a pool and there are some areas around the pool where water sits after it rains.I still have to backfill around the pool and the installer said to use dirt. Is there anything else besides dirt that I can use that will 1) not collect the water as dirt would and 2) help drain the water away from the pool? Something such as a stone etc? We are currently putting a deck up around the entire pool and I don't want to have to worry whether we are collecting water around the pool.
Answers:
Dig down around the pool but not extremely close. Down about a foot. Fill a 1/3 with coarse sand, 1/3 with pea gravel, and the remainder plus an inch or 2 with coarse gravel. Then add dirt around that and sow grass so it slopes away from the pool. The sand, pea gravel, and coarse gravel basically make a sand pit where the water will "seep" into the ground instead of just standing there making a birthing room for mosquitoes. The sloping grass will direct the water away to your lawn.
What about stone dust? Idk if that would work, just chippin in.
plain ole dirt. if you plant grass on it, it wont wash away. also make it higher by the pool so the water will fun off away from the pool.
